Provinces are administrative units within the Order of St. Thomas of Acon. A Province is created when four or more Chapels, located within a specific geographic area, petition the Grand Master’s Council for its creation.
Each Province has its own distinct set of officers, who wear silver escalope shells on their mantel, tunics and caps. These officers assist with the establishment of new Chapels in their area and aid the Grand Master’s Council in providing administrative support.
The head of a Province is the Grand Preceptor. He is a ranking officer within the Grand Master’s Council and may be asked to serve on additional committees.
